On June 30, Youtube welcomed a new video made for a country pop song, Glamour Girl. The lyrics is about a girl from the countryside, who aspires to be a Hollywood star. You may not find the lyrics special, as you may have seen lots of movies portraying the similar story such as Coyote Ugly or the Disney’s megahit of 2016, Zootopia.
What makes Glamour Girl special is the composer, a 21-year-old Carly Fleischmann. At the age of 2, Carly was diagnosed with autism. She cannot speak a word due to oral motor apraxia. Being unable to speak, she was misjudged by the others as an intellectual and mental handicap. Nobody thought she would understand anything they said. The turning point came when Carly was 11. On that day, she had a stomachache. The girl reached out to a laptop placed on a table and typed “HURT HELP”.
This was a breakthrough moment. It told everyone that she had understood a verbal communication. They learnt that Carly is a normal girl trapped inside an uncontrollable body. She cannot control it because her brain is occupied by an oversensitive sensory. People living with autism perceive things faster and in much greater volume. A sound of a pin drop from the distance, echoes in their ears like an explosion. So, they have to scream or pound their heads to the floor to distract themselves from the noise within their heads.
After her writing skill was discovered, Carly worked with the therapy and her parents to develop her communication. She types a word in a tablet or a laptop and use a word-processing application to speak for her. Her writing ability has evolved astonishingly and relentlessly. Now Carly has her own pocket book, her own show on the internet and her own awe-inspiring song, Glamour Girl.
I am compelled by how the song not mention autism. The song talks about Carly working her way to the Hollywood fame. She needs courage and determination. And that’s all. She does not see being autistic has anything to do with her dream or use it as an excuse to ask for sympathy.
There is one more special thing, the two singers of the song have also gone through mental obstacles. Kaitlin Kozell, the main singer was fighting for her self-esteem to get over her bullied experience. And the rapper, Lil Jaxe was taking a challenge to rap fluidly as he has speech impediment. Together they teamed up to produce the song and overcome their struggles in the same time.
The tune does not only inspire the audience, one way or another, it heals the three upcoming artists as well.
The song recording was supported by The Radd Collective, a backup band. The video was shot and edited by a Canadian filmmaking group, The Documentarians.

เมื่อวันที่ 30 มิถุนายน มิวสิควิดิโอเพลงแนวคันทรีป๊อป ชื่อว่า Glamour Girl ได้เผยแพร่ทาง Youtube เพลง Glamour Girl เป็นเรื่องของเด็กผู้หญิงจากต่างจังหวัดที่อยากเข้ามาเป็นดาราในฮอลลีวู้ด หลายๆ คนก็คงคุ้นเคยกับเรื่องราวทำนองนี้ในหนัง Coyote Ugly หรือจากการ์ตูนดิสนีย์เรื่อง Zootopia
สิ่งที่ทำให้เรื่องราวของเพลงนี้โดดเด่นขึ้นมาคือตัวคนแต่ง ซึ่งก็คือ Carly Fleischmann (คาร์ลีย์ ไฟลช์แมน) เธอคือสาววัย 21 ที่ถูกวินิจฉัยว่าเป็นเด็กพิเศษตั้งแต่อายุ 2 ขวบ เธอไม่สามารถพูดได้ พ่อแม่ของเธอมองว่าเธอเป็นผู้พิการทางสมองที่ต้องอาศัยคนดูแล จนกระทั่งวันหนึ่งเมื่อตอนเธออายุ 11 เธอปวดท้อง Carly จึงเดินไปที่คอมพิวเตอร์โน๊ตบุ๊ค เอานิ้วจิ้มคำว่า “HURT HELP”
เหตุการณ์นั้นเป็นจุดเปลี่ยนทางประวัติศาสตร์การแพทย์ ทำให้ทุกคนรู้ว่าการเป็นออทิสติกไม่มีผลต่อการรับรู้ของสมอง ปัญหาของภาวะออทิสซึ่มคืิอพวกเขารับรู้ทุกอย่างเร็วมากและรับรู้ในปริมาณที่มากกว่าคนทั่วไป พวกเขาจะมีประสาทตาและหูที่ไวต่อสิ่งรอบตัว เช่น เสียงเข็มหมุดที่ตกพื้นจากระยะไกล เมื่อเข้าไปในหู จะดังเหมือนระเบิด นั่นทำให้คนที่มีภาวะออทิสซึ่มต้องร้องกรี๊ดออกมาทันที
หลังจากที่ทุกคนค้นพบความสามารถในการเขียนของ Carly เธอก็ใช้การเขียนเพื่อสื่อสารอย่างต่อเนื่อง เธอพิมพ์คำพูดลงแท็บเล็ตและให้ลำโพงพูดแทนเสียงของเธอ เธอเขียนหนังสือพ็อคเกตบุ๊คเพื่อสร้างความเข้าใจเรื่องภาวะออทิสซึ่ม รวมถึงทำรายการลงอินเตอร์เน็ต สร้างแรงบันดาลใจให้คนทั้งโลก จนมาถึงงานชิ้นล่าสุด ซึ่งก็คือเพลง Glamour Girl นี่เอง
สิ่งที่เราชอบมากที่สุดของเพลงนี้คือการที่เพลงไม่ได้พูดเรื่องการเป็นออทิสติก แต่พูดถึงคนๆ หนึ่งที่ชื่อ Carly ผู้มีความฝันอยากเป็นดาราฮอลลีวู้ด เธอจะต้องใช้ความกล้าหาญและความมุ่งมั่นอันมหาศาลเพื่อจะก้าวไปให้ถึง โดยไม่ทำให้เรื่องการเป็นเด็กพิเศษของเธอเป็นประเด็นใดๆ
สิ่งที่พิเศษกว่านั้น เพลงนี้มีนักร้องสองคนคือ Kaitlin Kozell ที่เป็นนักร้องหลัก และ Lil Jaxe ที่ร้องท่อนแร็ป นักร้องหน้าใหม่ทั้งสองต่างก็ผ่านเรื่องร้ายๆ ในชีวิตมาเหมือนกัน Kaitlin ต้องต่อสู้กับปมด้อยที่ถูกคนอื่นรังแก และ Jaxe ต้องสู้กับอาการติดอ่าง การที่ทั้งสามคนร่วมกันทำเพลง ก็เป็นเหมือนการก้าวข้ามขีดความสามารถของตัวเองไปพร้อมๆ กัน
นอกจากเพลงนี้จะให้กำลังใจคนฟัง ยังช่วยเยียวยาจิตใจศิลปินหน้าใหม่ทั้งสามคนด้วย เพลงนี้บันทึกเสียงโดย The Radd Collective วงดนตรีแบ็คอัพ และมิวสิควิดิโอถ่ายทำและตัดต่อโดยกลุ่ม The Documentarians จากแคนาดา
